Direct Mail

Direct Mail allows you to send physical postcards to customers using AIQ’s audience targeting, campaign tools, and analytics. This channel is ideal for reaching customers offline while still benefiting from AIQ’s segmentation, attribution, and reporting.

Prerequisites

Before getting started, ensure you have:

Required Permissions:

Campaigns can be accessed by users with one of the following roles:

  • Marketing

  • Marketing Analyst

  • Operator

  • Owner

🌎 Direct Mail is currently only available in the United States.


How to Send Direct Mail in AIQ

Step 1: Create a New Campaign

  1. Navigate to Marketing > Campaigns

  2. Click Add (+)

Step 2: Select Direct Mail Channel

  1. On the Channels step, select Direct Mail

  2. Continue through Campaign Builder to reach the Content step

Step 3: Configure Postcard Content

  1. Click the Direct Mail tab

  2. Select a postcard size

  3. Upload postcard images:

    • Front image

    • Back image

⚠️ Before uploading, review the Image Requirements shown in the builder to ensure compatibility.

Step 4: Review & Launch

  1. Continue to the Review step

  2. Schedule your campaign

  3. Click Launch


Postcard Sizes

Available postcard sizes:

  • Small: 4 × 6

  • Medium: 6 × 9

  • Large: 6 × 11


Image Requirements

Artwork must meet the following requirements to be accepted:

  • Bleed: Include a 1/8" border around final trim size

    • Example: A 4" × 6" postcard must be submitted as 4.25" × 6.25"

  • Safe zone: Keep critical elements at least 1/8" from edges

  • Crop marks: Not required

  • Postage marks: Do not include

  • Max file size: 5MB

  • Resolution: Minimum 300 DPI

  • Aspect ratio: Must match selected postcard size exactly

    • Images will not be cropped or stretched


Conceal Recipient Name (Optional)

When enabled, this setting replaces the recipient’s name with “Current Resident” on the postcard.


This provides added discretion and privacy.

Design Tips

  • Use high-contrast colors for readability

  • Choose easy-to-read fonts:

    • Century Gothic

    • Helvetica

    • Verdana

  • Use two fonts to create visual contrast

  • Make your CTA stand out with borders or emphasis

    Track new signups from direct mail by adding a custom QR code

    For loyalty members, link directly to wallet login with a CTA like
    “Check your points balance and rewards”

    Analyze sales and conversions after the 30-day attribution window

  • Address Requirements
    A persona must have:

    • First Name

    • Last Name

    • Street

    • City

    • State

    • Zip Code

    • Country

  • Address Validation

    • Invalid addresses will not be mailed

    • You will not be charged for undeliverable addresses

    • Enable Force valid address on signup forms to ensure accuracy

  • Compliance

    • Reference local regulations for direct mail marketing

    • Postcards must be designed outside of AIQ


Direct Mail FAQs

How long does it take to send?

Postcards are typically printed and mailed within 48 hours of the campaign going live. Attribution windows are automatically set to 30 days following delivery receipt.


What happens if an address is wrong?

All addresses are validated before sending. If an address fails validation, the postcard will not be sent, and you will not be charged.


Can I send mail types other than postcards?

No. Only postcards are supported at this time. Three postcard sizes are available.


Can customers opt out of direct mail?

No. Mail carriers do not offer an opt-out mechanism for direct mail.


Are there diagrams to help with image requirements?

Yes. Diagrams are available in the builder and are shown in this order:

  1. Small

  2. Medium

  3. Large
