Using Surveys to Create Audiences

Audiences can be created based on survey responses within AIQ. This involves leveraging AIQ's audience segmentation and data management tools to create targeted groups based on the answers provided in surveys.

Prerequisites

Before getting started, ensure you have:

Required Permissions:

Audiences are available to users with the following permissions:

  • Analyst

  • Marketing

  • Marketing Analyst

  • Operator

  • Owner

Other Requirements

  • At least one published survey collecting responses

  • A Marketing Pro subscription (or higher) to access and create surveys

⚠️ Important: Surveys must collect identifying information so responses can be associated with a Persona.

  • Surveys sent through AIQ campaigns automatically map to the correct Persona

  • Surveys shared via link or QR code may require users to enter an email or phone number


How to Set It Up

1. Collect Survey Responses

First, send your survey to customers and begin collecting responses. AIQ surveys can be distributed in several ways:

  • Popup Forms
    Embed an AIQ survey directly on your website or ecommerce menu

  • Campaign Surveys
    Include a survey link within an email or SMS campaign

  • In-Store QR Codes
    Display a QR code in-store so customers can complete the survey on their phone


2. Integrate Survey Data with AIQ

If you are using AIQ’s built-in survey tool, responses will automatically associate with Personas in the system. No additional setup is required.

You can also bring in survey response data manually:

CSV Upload

Upload survey responses tied to Personas directly into AIQ.

API Integration

Use AIQ’s API to automatically send survey data into the platform.

Manual Survey Data Mapping

When uploading or integrating survey responses, ensure responses are linked to customer profiles using:

  • Persona ID

  • Email address

  • Phone number

This mapping is required in order to create audiences from the data.


3. Create an Audience Using Survey Custom Attributes

AIQ automatically generates custom attributes based on survey responses.

For example, if a survey asks about product preferences, AIQ may create attributes like:

  • Product Preference: Baked Goods

  • Product Preference: Apparel

  • Product Preference: Electronics

To build an audience:

  1. Navigate to Customers > Audiences

  2. Click Create New Audience

  3. Locate the "Survey Question Answer" Trait

  4. Choose the survey question from the dropdown menu and set the value


4. Create Targeted Campaigns from that Audience

After creating your audience from the survey responses, you can leverage these segments for targeted marketing campaigns. Examples:

  • Marketing Personalization and Targeting

    • Send personalized messaging to specific audience segments.

  • Loyalty Programs

    • Offer tailored rewards to different segments.

  • Personalized Recommendations

    • Provide product recommendations based on survey preferences.


Attribute-Based Segmentation Example

  • Select: Product Preference: Electronics

  • Set condition: equals True


Combine Multiple Criteria

You can layer multiple survey responses together. For example:

  • Customers who prefer Electronics
    AND

  • Customers with a high satisfaction rating


Use Filters and Logic

AIQ supports AND/OR logic to fine-tune segments.

Examples:

  • Customers who prefer Electronics OR Apparel

  • Customers who prefer Electronics AND purchased within the last 30 days


Save and Name Your Audience

Once criteria are defined:

  1. Click Save Audience

  2. Give it a clear, descriptive name, such as:

    • Electronics Enthusiasts

    • Low Satisfaction Follow-Up Group

    • Apparel Loyalty Segment


Example Use Cases

Use Case 1:
A retailer builds an audience of customers who selected “Electronics” in a preference survey and sends them a targeted product launch campaign.

Use Case 2:
A customer success team segments users who gave a satisfaction rating below 3 to trigger outreach and support follow-up.
