Abandoned Cart Triggers

To send Abandoned Cart messages, AIQ must first receive abandoned cart data from your e-commerce platform.

Key notes:

  • Trigger timing is controlled by the e-commerce provider

  • Timing rules may vary and may be editable depending on the provider

  • Triggers allow AIQ to automatically send email, SMS, or push messages

AIQ supports two trigger types:

Simple Triggers

Simple triggers provide:

  • Notification that a cart was abandoned

  • Customer identifier only

Supported e-commerce integrations:

  • Dutchie Ecom

  • Blaze Ecom (formerly Tymber)

Dynamic Triggers

Dynamic triggers provide:

  • Cart abandonment notification

  • Customer identifier

  • Product-level details left in the cart

  • Ability to recommend alternatives if items are out of stock

⚠️ Dynamic Content requires AIQ Marketing Pro

Supported e-commerce integrations:

  • AIQ Ecommerce via Cart API

  • I Heart Jane Ecom

  • Shopify

How to Create an Abandoned Cart Campaign

Once your e-commerce provider is connected and sending abandonment events, you can build the campaign.

Step 1: Create a New Campaign

  1. Navigate to Marketing > Campaigns

  2. Click Add (+) to create a new campaign

Step 2: Select Campaign Channel

  1. Choose which channel(s) you want to use

    • Email is the most common for Abandoned Cart

Step 3: Configure Recipients

  1. On the Recipients screen, select campaign type: Abandoned Cart

  2. If you want all customers to receive cart reminders, choose:
    All subscribed users

This automatically connects the campaign to the Abandoned Cart Trigger from your e-commerce provider (Simple or Dynamic).

Step 4: Build Campaign Content

  1. On the Content screen, filter templates by:
    Abandon Cart

  2. Select an existing template or create a custom one

Step 5: Add Abandoned Products (Dynamic Only)

To display abandoned cart items in the message:

  1. Click Product Feed

  2. In the modal, select:
    User Abandoned Items

⚠️ This option only appears if your e-commerce provider supports Dynamic Triggers.

Step 6: Review & Launch

  1. Continue to the Review step

  2. Your schedule will automatically be set to:
    Ongoing

  3. Click Set Live to launch the campaign

Troubleshooting

Issue: My abandoned cart campaign didn’t send
Solution: Confirm your e-commerce provider is properly sending abandoned cart events and that your audience includes subscribed users.

Issue: Products are not showing in the email
Solution: You must add Dynamic Content via Product Feed, and your provider must support Dynamic Triggers.

FAQ

Can I customize the abandoned cart window (ex: 2 hours → 1 hour)?

Most abandonment timers are controlled by the e-commerce provider. Check with your specific integration.

How do I show abandoned products inside the email?

You need to add Dynamic Content to your Abandoned Cart template using:

  • Product Feed → User Abandoned Items

This only works with e-commerce platforms that support Dynamic Triggers.

My e-commerce provider doesn’t support abandoned cart. How can I get it built?

There are two required steps:

Step 1: Provider sends abandoned cart data to AIQ

Your e-commerce platform must send cart events through AIQ’s /v2/cart endpoint.
See developer docs: E-commerce Integration

Step 2: AIQ supports Dynamic Content using that data

Once events are available, AIQ can build Dynamic Content support on top of them.

If your provider is not currently supported, reach out to them first to implement Step 1.
