Prerequisites

Before getting started, ensure you have:

Required Permissions:

Campaigns are available to users with the following permissions:

  • Marketing

  • Marketing Analyst

  • Operator

  • Owner

Campaign Types

Normal Campaign

Use Normal campaigns to send a one-off message to your audience.

Best for:

  • Promotions

  • Announcements

  • Seasonal campaigns

Key feature:

  • Enable Intelligent Timing when scheduling, so AIQ can optimize delivery time per recipient.

Birthday Reward Campaigns

AIQ makes it easy to celebrate customers with automated birthday messages. Birthday campaigns can be set up in two ways depending on how much flexibility you need.

Option 1: Birthday Trigger (Recommended)

The Birthday Trigger automatically sends a campaign on each customer’s birthday.

How to Set It Up

  1. In the campaign Recipients section

  2. Set your Campaign Trigger = Birthday Reward

Key Benefits

  • Fully automated: Set it up once

  • Resends yearly: No need to rebuild each year

  • Simple targeting: Most retailers use All Loyalty Members

Best for:

  • A recurring “Happy Birthday” message delivered automatically every year

Option 2: Custom Birthday Audiences

If you want to send campaigns before or throughout a birthday month, use custom audience traits instead of the Birthday Trigger.

Actual Birthday

Trait:

  • Contact Trait → Is their birthday → True

Targets customers only on the exact day.

Example:

  • A one-day-only birthday reward

Birthday Month

Trait:

  • Contact Trait → Is their birthday month → True

Targets customers for their full birthday month.

Example:

  • A birthday-month discount valid for 30 days

Relative Birthday

Trait:

  • Contact Trait → Is their birthday (relative)

Options include:

  • In the next X–Y days
Example: Next 0–5 days for rolling birthday sends

  • Between Start Date – End Date
Example: One campaign running only in June

⚠️ Important:

  • Birthday Month and Relative Birthday campaigns must be recreated each year

  • Setting a campaign to “Ongoing” will only send once per person, not annually

Random Lottery Campaign

Use Random Lottery to send a campaign to a random subset of your audience each day.

When selected, you can configure:

  • “Randomly select and send this campaign to __ audience members per day”

Best for:

  • Daily giveaways

  • Surprise-and-delight promotions

  • Controlled limited-volume offers

Post Purchase Survey or Review Campaign

Send campaigns to customers shortly after they make a purchase.

Timing:

  • Typically sent a few hours to a day after purchase

  • Depends on the POS integration

Best for:

  • Review requests

  • Customer satisfaction surveys

  • Feedback collection

⚠️ Warning:

If left running indefinitely, frequent buyers may receive repeated messages, which can increase unsubscribe rates.

Abandoned Cart Campaigns

When customers abandon their cart, they leave items behind without checking out. Roughly 70% of shoppers abandon carts before completing purchase.

AIQ Abandoned Cart Notifications help you:

  • Remind shoppers to complete checkout

  • Offer incentives or discounts

  • Recover lost revenue

Abandoned Cart Notifications work with AIQ E-commerce and many integrated e-commerce partners.

Abandoned Cart Triggers

To send Abandoned Cart campaigns, AIQ must receive abandoned cart data from your e-commerce provider.

Timing is controlled by your e-commerce platform and may vary.

AIQ supports two trigger types:

Simple Triggers

Simple triggers provide:

  • Notification that a cart was abandoned

  • Customer identifier only

Supported integrations:

  • Dutchie Ecom

  • Blaze Ecom (formerly Tymber)

Dynamic Triggers

Dynamic triggers provide:

  • Cart abandonment notification

  • Customer identifier

  • Product details left in the cart

  • Ability to recommend alternatives if items are out of stock

Requirements:

  • Dynamic Content requires AIQ Marketing Pro

Supported integrations:

  • AIQ Ecommerce via Cart API

  • I Heart Jane Ecom

  • Shopify

FAQ

Can I customize the abandoned cart timer (ex: 2 hours → 1 hour)?

Most cart abandonment windows are set by the e-commerce provider. Check with your platform directly.

How do I show abandoned products inside the email?

You must add Dynamic Content to the abandoned cart template.

This only works with e-commerce providers that support Dynamic Triggers.

Do Birthday Campaigns resend every year automatically?

Only if you use the Birthday Trigger. Custom Birthday Audiences must be recreated yearly.

Does Abandoned Cart always include products?

Only Dynamic Triggers include product-level details. Simple triggers do not.
