Contact Card

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview/Background

Apple introduced enhanced message filtering in iOS 16+, which may route texts from unknown numbers into separate Unknown Senders or Spam tabs.

To help ensure your messages stay in the main inbox, AIQ allows you to send a verified Contact Card (vCard) so customers can easily save your brand as a known contact. Saving your card improves message recognition and deliverability.

Prerequisites

Before configuring Contact Cards, ensure you have:

Required Permissions

  • Marketing

  • Marketing Analyst

  • Operator

  • Owner

How to Configure Your Contact Card

  1. Navigate to Settings > Texting > Add to Contacts Card

  2. Fill out your contact card information (some fields will be pre-filled automatically):

Contact Card Fields

Display Name

  • Defaults to Brand Name (from Texting Settings)

  • If unavailable, defaults to Company Name (from Account Settings)

Required and editable

📌 Cannabis-related language is allowed here and is not filtered, so you may use your normal brand name instead of a “safe texting” name.

Phone

  • Defaults to your 10DLC registered number

Required and not editable

Logo / Image

  • Defaults to your Small Logo

Optional and editable

Website Link

This is the website shown on the contact card.

Recommendation: Use your company’s main website (not a location-specific page), since you only need one contact card for your organization.

  • Defaults to Website (from Account Settings)

Optional and editable

Notes

  • Defaults to:
    “Official messages from {{Brand name}}.”

Optional and editable

  1. Click Save

Once configured, AIQ uses this contact identity when sending vCards through both automatic sends and campaign sends.

Automatic Sends (Post Opt-In)

When your Contact Card is configured and enabled, AIQ automatically sends your verified vCard to eligible contacts to help ensure future texts land in their primary inbox.

When It Sends

AIQ sends the contact card automatically when a contact:

  • Opts in for messaging for the first time, or

  • Re-opts in after previously unsubscribing

As long as they have not received a contact card within the last 90 days.

Message Content

The following standardized message is sent with the vCard attachment:

“Add us to your contacts to keep messages out of ‘Unknown Senders.’”
(vCard attached)

This message cannot be edited. Standardization helps minimize filtering and ensures compliance with carrier expectations.

Rules & Behavior

Rule

Description

Automatic delivery

Sent once per contact per 90-day period

Unconfigured card

If your Contact Card is not set up, AIQ skips sending

Unsupported MMS

If MMS attachments aren’t supported, AIQ falls back to a secure hosted .vcf link

Brand display

Uses your configured name and logo (cannabis terms permitted)

Campaign Sends

In addition to automatic opt-in sends, you can manually send contact cards through a dedicated campaign.

This is useful for reaching already-opted-in personas who may not have saved your number.

⚠️ Contact cards must be sent as an individual campaign and cannot be attached to a traditional text campaign with landing pages.

Example Use Cases

  • You redesigned your logo or updated your website URL

  • You want to re-send the card to existing subscribers

  • You want to re-introduce your brand to opted-in customers

Campaign Settings

When creating a Text Campaign, you may see the following option:

Send “Add to Contacts” Card

Sends your verified contact card (vCard) to the selected audience to improve inbox placement.

  • Default: OFF

Only Send to New Contacts

When enabled, AIQ sends only to contacts who have never received a card before.

Recommended for first-time sends

Lookback (Days)

Defines how far back AIQ checks for contacts who haven’t received a card.

  • Default: 90 days

  • If set to 0, AIQ will reset it back to 90 days

  • Only visible when “Only send to New contacts” is OFF

FAQs

Are contact cards sent automatically for opt-ins and re-opt-ins?

Yes. Once all required fields are completed in Settings > Texting > Contact Card, AIQ automatically sends a vCard to new or re-opted-in contacts who haven’t received one in the last 90 days.

Why send a contact card in a campaign if opt-ins already receive one?

Campaign sends help you reach existing opted-in contacts who may never have saved your number. They are also useful after updating your branding (logo, website, display name).

Is there a cooldown period?

Yes. AIQ enforces a 90-day cooldown per recipient across both automatic and campaign sends.

You can adjust this using the Lookback setting in campaign configuration.

What happens if I enable the campaign toggle without setting up my Contact Card?

Nothing will send until all required fields in Texting > Contact Card are completed.

Once configured, both automatic and campaign sends will use the saved identity.

Can I resend a card after updating brand information?

Yes. Create a campaign send and adjust the Lookback window to include contacts who have not received a card recently.

What’s the difference between automatic sends and campaign sends?

  • Automatic sends: Triggered for new or re-opted-in contacts

  • Campaign sends: Target existing opted-in contacts manually

What does “Only send to new contacts” mean?

When enabled, AIQ sends contact cards only to contacts who have never received one before. When disabled, AIQ may resend based on your Lookback window.

Do contact cards count toward SMS credits?

Sending a campaign with a contact card costs credits, but there is no additional charge specifically for the card attachment itself.

Can I customize the design?

vCards follow standard iOS formatting. You can customize:

  • Display name

  • Logo

  • Website

But layout and structure are standardized for compatibility.

Can Android devices receive contact cards?

Yes. Both Android and iOS devices can receive vCards. This feature is primarily designed to address iOS filtering behavior.

Can I send contact cards within an existing landing page text campaign?

No. If you enable Send “Add to Contacts” Card, AIQ will not allow a traditional landing-page text campaign in the same send.

Does cannabis content need to be excluded from the contact card?

No, it's not necessary to do so.
