How to Create a Loop
To create a Loop and for FAQs, see Loops.
What is Loops?
Loops are paid placements built specifically for the cannabis journey. Unlike programmatic ads or marketplace listings, Loops are delivered directly through retailer channels where your shoppers are already shopping, such as menus, in mobile apps, campaigns, and widgets.
This means you're not just buying ad space. You're buying access to real purchase moments.
Why Use Loops?
As a brand, traditional ad channels create challenges:
Limited attribution (hard to prove ROI)
Bots and unverified impressions
No buyer-behavior targeting
With Loops, you get:
Verified impressions across 4,400+ retail locations
Access to millions of opted-in cannabis shoppers
Up to 6x higher engagement than static menu placements
Real-time reporting that ties impressions directly to transactions
How Loops Work
Placement: Your product or brand message appears in retailer channels.
Engagement: Shoppers see your Loop while browsing or purchasing.
Attribution: AIQ tracks results from impression to sale.
Optimization: Reporting shows which placements drive the most conversions, so you can adjust future campaigns.
Benefits for Your Brand
Visibility without compliance headaches: Ads run through retailer communications, already compliant with cannabis marketing rules.
Control: You choose your message and creative.
Performance Insights: Measure success at the SKU, store, or campaign level.
Scalability: Launch across hundreds of retail partners simultaneously.
💡 Tip: Some retailers generate enough Loop revenue to cover their AIQ subscription costs entirely. This means your campaigns not only drive sales but also strengthen retail partnerships.
Loop Destination URL — How It Resolves
When a shopper clicks a Loop, AIQ resolves the destination URL in this order:
Retailer's Online Shop URL — pulled dynamically from each retailer's Settings → Retail Locations → General. For Brand accounts, this resolves per retailer since Brand accounts do not have their own Retail Locations.
Dispense menu fallback
Mobile app Shop tab
Fallback URL — the URL entered on the Loop campaign. This is a last resort and is not prioritizable over the retailer-level URLs above.
📌 Multiple campaigns: You can run multiple Loops campaigns with different Fallback URLs in a single Brand account — there is no limit on concurrent campaigns.
Inventory-aware Loops
What inventory-aware does
When inventory-aware routing is ON, a Loop is eligible for a retailer store only if that store has recent sales (trailing ~30 days) for the brand(s) the campaign is checking. Eligibility is always evaluated per store when a store is known. The brand dropdown only changes which brands count at that store—not whether the check is store-level or retailer-wide.
Brand dropdown = a specific brand
Inventory-aware only counts sales for that brand (and its related brand aliases).
A store with sales of other My Brands, but not this brand, will not qualify.
Use this when the Loop should only run where that brand is selling.
Brand dropdown = empty (no brand selected)
Inventory-aware counts sales for any brand in My Brands on that Loop account.
Example: My Brands includes Brand A, Brand B, Brand C. A store that sold Brand B (but not Brand A) still qualifies for the campaign.
Empty dropdown does not mean “show on every store.” It only widens which brand names count. Stores with no My Brand sales still do not qualify.
Good to know
Sponsored only: Applies to brand-sponsored Loops, not retailer first-party Loops.
Doesn’t override targeting: Still respects state / retailer / store targets.
Sales, not stock: Based on recent sales (~30 days), not live menu inventory.
