FAQs

How Do I Use Custom Traits?

Custom attributes that you enable using the custom mapping above can be used in the audience builder under "Custom brand traits". Note that custom attributes won't populate here until after we've pulled them on contacts from Klaivyo.

How often do you sync data between platforms?

As a data source we pull every 4-6 hours, as a data destination we push every 24 hours.

How often to audiences get pushed to Klaviyo?

Every 3 hours.

Can I send data from AIQ to Klaviyo to create triggers for flows (including lifecycle messages)?

No, we don't currently utilize any Klaviyo triggering functionality. We only export audience lists to klaviyo as lists on their end..with phone, email etc for each Persona

Troubleshooting: Lists Not Pulling Into AIQ After Setup

If contacts from Klaviyo are not appearing in AIQ after setup, check these two common causes:

  • API key permissions: The Klaviyo private API key must have read access to Lists, Segments, and Profiles. A key created without these scopes will silently fail to sync — no error message is shown. Regenerate the key in Klaviyo with the correct scopes and re-enter it in AIQ.

  • IDs, not display names: The List/Segment IDs field must contain Klaviyo's short alphanumeric IDs (found in each list or segment's settings page in Klaviyo), not display names. Entering a name instead of the ID causes the sync to silently skip that list entirely.

Which contacts get sent to Klaviyo when AIQ pushes to it as a destination?

AIQ applies the following filters before sending contacts to Klaviyo. A contact must meet all of these requirements to be included in the export:

  • Valid contact info: The contact must have a usable identifier (phone or email).

  • Opted-in status: The contact must be opted in to marketing.

  • New contacts only: AIQ only sends contacts that have not already been exported to Klaviyo in a previous sync.

  • Valid email address: A valid email is required regardless of other opt-in status.

⚠️ Contacts opted into SMS only (with no email address) are NOT sent to Klaviyo. Because Klaviyo is an email-first platform, a valid email address is required for every exported contact — even if the merchant's campaign targeting uses phone numbers. If you expect a contact to appear in Klaviyo and they don't, confirm they have a valid email on their AIQ persona.
