Background
The AIQ Ecommerce integration with Moneris lets stores accept credit card payments online. Shoppers enter their card in a secure Moneris checkout form, and logged-in shoppers can save their card for faster checkout next time.
⚠️ Moneris is only available for stores located in Canada.
How to set up Moneris
Get your Moneris credentials
You'll need your Store ID, API Token, and Checkout ID from the Moneris Merchant Resource Centre. Contact Moneris if you don't have access.
Store ID: shown at the top of the Merchant Resource Centre next to your store name.
API Token: go to Admin > Store Settings.
Checkout ID: go to Admin > Moneris Checkout Config. Copy the ID from the CHECKOUT_ID column. It starts with
chkt.
Set up your Checkout profile in Moneris
On the Moneris Checkout Configuration page, click Edit on your profile, or Create Profile if you don't have one yet. Then:
Under Transaction Type, select Preauthorization. This matches the recommended AIQ setup below.
Recommended: check Tokenize Card so logged-in shoppers can reuse their card on future orders. Cards are saved automatically for logged-in shoppers, and they can remove them anytime from their account. Guest shoppers' cards are never saved.
Save the profile.
Enter your credentials into AIQ Ecommerce
Go to Store > Integrations > Moneris.
Enable the integration and enter your Store ID, API Token, and Checkout ID.
Enable Capture payment (recommended).
Enable Capture when orders are closed (recommended).
Click Save.
Enable Moneris for each order type
Go to Store > Settings.
Enable Moneris for each order type (In Store, Curbside, etc.) that you'd like to accept this payment method.
Click Save.
Cancelled orders and refunds
With Capture when orders are closed enabled, cancelling an order before it's closed releases the hold on the shopper's card, so they're never charged.
⚠️ Warning: Once an order is closed, the shopper's card has been charged. To refund a closed order, issue the refund through the Moneris Merchant Resource Centre.
FAQs
What is payment authorization vs capture? Why turn on "Capture when orders are closed"?
Authorization places a hold on the shopper's card for the order total.
Capture actually charges the card and moves the money to the retailer.
With Capture when orders are closed turned on, the card is authorized when the order is placed, and it's only charged when the order is closed in AIQ Ecommerce. This is recommended because cancelled orders are much easier to handle before the funds have actually been taken.
I don't want to capture when orders are closed. What should I change?
Turn off Capture when orders are closed in AIQ, and change the Transaction Type on your Moneris Checkout profile to Purchase. The shopper will be charged right away at checkout.
⚠️ Your Moneris Transaction Type and your AIQ capture settings must match, or payments may not be captured or refunded correctly.
How do saved cards work?
When a logged-in shopper pays, their card is saved for future orders at your store. Shoppers can remove saved cards anytime from their account. Guest shoppers' cards are never saved.
